Less than a month before he is set to retire, Alan Jackson appeared on the National Memorial Day Concert that aired on Sunday (May 24).
The National Memorial Day Concert featured an all-star lineup of performers who gathered in Washington, D.C. to pay tribute to U.S. military personnel, veterans, Gold Star families, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Among those who performed were country stars Alan Jackson, Jamey Johnson, and Mickey Guyton, along with Andy Grammer, Laura Osnes, and more.
Hosted by Gary Sinise and Mary McCormack, the concert also recognized the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America. Other milestones remembered were the 75th anniversary of the Korean War, the 85th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, and the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
Country star Alan Jackson took the stage to sing his Grammy Award-winning hit, “Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning).” Jackson wrote and recorded the song following the terrorist attacks of September 11.
Alan Jackson Sings At Memorial Day Concert
A pre-recorded performance of Alan Jackson singing “Where Were You” was played during Sunday’s concert. His performance was preceded by an introduction that included video footage and audio recordings from that tragic September day.
Jackson recorded his performance at the Ryman Auditorium instead of attending the event in person. It marked the second time the country legend performed for the National Memorial Day Concert. He also sang “Where Were You” for the event in 2021.
Alan Jackson’s performance comes just one month before he will officially retire from touring.
On June 27, Jackson will conclude his touring career with a final stop at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium. Little Big Town, Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Riley Green, Cody Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, and many more will make an appearance at his farewell concert to pay tribute to his life and his legacy.
Alan Jackson has long been an outspoken patriot and supporter of veterans, but has done so without being too vocally political. He often stopped his concerts to recognize veterans and military families, and has performed patriotic hits at other national events.
