The rodeo community is grieving the sudden death of Cheyanna Closser, a beloved barrel racer, jockey, and attorney.
Cheyanna Closser was killed in a car accident on Tuesday, July 28.
According to reports, a 2021 Freightliner semi-truck pulling an unloaded trailer failed to stop at an intersection and struck Closser’s car, a Chevy Cruz. She was airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis, where she later died from her injuries. She was 29.
Closser began her career as a jockey in Indianapolis in 2013, where she earned 66 victories with winnings totaling over $1 million. She later pursued a law degree, becoming an attorney upon graduating from the University of Kentucky.
