Carrie Underwood Stuns Fans With Unexpected Limp Bizkit Cover
Carrie Underwood surprised fans in a way few people expected when she suddenly switched from country music to nu-metal during her latest festival performance.
The country superstar took the stage at the Velocity Festival in Dyersville, Iowa, on September 5 and delivered a series of unexpected rock covers, including Limp Bizkit’s explosive hit “Break Stuff.”

Carrie Underwood Goes Full Rock
Underwood’s set already had plenty of country favorites, but the singer decided to take things in a completely different direction.
She performed songs associated with Collective Soul, Papa Roach, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit, giving fans a surprising taste of her rock influences.
The biggest surprise came when she launched into Limp Bizkit’s 1999 hit “Break Stuff.”
Underwood even wore a backward red baseball cap as a nod to Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst.
The crowd was treated to a side of Carrie that they do not always get to see on stage.

She Promised A Clean Version
Before performing “Break Stuff,” Underwood warned the audience that the song contains plenty of explicit language.
She told fans that she loves aggressive, angry music, but because she also loves Jesus, she would not be singing the song’s profanity.
Instead, Underwood delivered a cleaned-up version while still bringing the energy of the original.
She jumped around the stage and fully embraced the heavier sound.

Carrie Also Covered Linkin Park And Papa Roach
“Break Stuff” was not the only surprise.
Underwood also performed Linkin Park’s “One Step Closer,” Papa Roach’s “Scars” and Collective Soul’s “Shine.” She also included Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” in the performance.
The set showed just how comfortable Underwood is outside the country genre.
Her love for rock music is not new.
She has previously performed with rock stars including Axl Rose, Joan Jett, Steven Tyler and Mötley Crüe, while also collaborating with Papa Roach.
Shinedown Inspired The Surprise
There was actually a reason behind Underwood’s unexpected change of direction.
She arrived early at the festival to watch Shinedown perform.
After seeing their set, Underwood said she felt inspired to try something new during her own performance the following day.
That decision clearly paid off.
The country star gave the audience a set that crossed several musical genres and showed another side of her personality as a performer.
Carrie Underwood Has Always Loved Rock
Although Underwood is one of country music’s biggest stars, she has never hidden her love for rock and metal.
In a previous interview, she explained that she grew up listening to many different styles of music and said she has an affinity for rock and metal because of the energy.
She has also previously said she would never completely rule out making a rock album someday.
Her latest performance may not mean a full rock album is coming, but it certainly reminded fans that Carrie Underwood can step far outside her country comfort zone.
And judging by the reaction to her Limp Bizkit cover, many fans were more than ready to see it.
