NASCAR Driver Denny Hamlin’s Dad, Dennis, Was Killed In A House Fire On December 28
On December 28, 2025, a fire broke out at a home that belonged to NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin’s parents, Mary Lou and Dennis Hamlin.
It took firefighters over two hours to extinguish the fire due to a lack of water in the area. Afterward, the home was deemed a “complete loss.”
Early reports stated that two people were “hurt” in the fire, but they were not named. Later, we learned that one of the two victims died.
The victims were later identified as Mary Lou and Dennis Hamlin. 75-year-old Dennis died, while Mary Lou was critically injured.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with condolences on my father’s passing,” Denny shared in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on December 31. “My mother continues to improve, and our family truly appreciates the outpouring of support and the respect for our privacy during this time.”

Denny raced in the Daytona 500 on February 15, 2026. Tyler Reddick ended up winning the race, while Joey Logano came in second place.
The Cause Of The Hamlin House Fire Remains Unknown
On February 20, The Associated Press reported that the Hamlin house fire had officially been ruled “accidental.” This news was confirmed in an email from Gaston County spokesperson Adam Gaub.
Despite this ruling, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown as of press time.
The Gaston County Emergency Management & Fire Services’ report indicates the fire started in one of the home’s bedrooms. However, the “cause of ignition” is listed as “undetermined” in the report.
Government records show the home had been owned by a company managed by Denny Hamlin.
Stay tuned for any future developments in this story. We’ll continue to keep Denny and Mary Lou Hamlin in our prayers…
