The Voice is back and better than ever with a new 3-coach format and some of the best talent the show has ever seen.
Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend returned for The Voice: Battle of Champions. With a combined 8 Voice wins between them, 19 Grammy wins, 29 Top 10 hits, and 37 Voice seasons coached, the competition is fiercer than ever.
During Monday night’s Battle of Champions 2-hour season premiere, another new twist was introduced. The coach who wins the most 3-chair turns will win a Super Steal that can be used later in the competition, adding more pressure for the coaches to convince artists to join their team.
Night one of Battle of Champions brought a wide variety of talent, including a Blind Audition performance from a 14-year-old that John Legend couldn’t resist.
Georgia native AJ Robinson offered his pure country vocals to a cover of Lainey Wilson’s “Watermelon Moonshine.”
Robinson strummed the guitar as he sang, donned a cowboy hat, and looked every bit the part of a country singer. AJ’s performance earned a chair turn from John Legend, and praise from the other coaches.
Kelly Clarkson predicted that he would do well in the competition and shared her excitement over John turning his chair for the teen.
“What made me push my button was, I loved your tone,” Legend said. “I love the way your voice kind of floats. It was airy, and it has a richness that sounds richer than it should sound when you’re only 14 years old. And I am ready to help you do well on this show, AJ.”

About AJ Robinson
According to AJ’s website, he discovered his love for music at the young age of 5 years old after being gifted a keyboard for Christmas.
“His musical ear became quite obvious. He immediately began playing songs completely by ear without any instruction, and it was clear that he had God given, unexplainable talent,” the bio reads.
Five years later, AJ added “guitar player” and “songwriter” to his resume. He plans to chase his dream of becoming a country star, and hopes to reach people for good while he’s at it.
“He believes all of the gifts and talents he has been given came straight from God, and not just by coincidence. He believes they were given to him to share with others and to somehow make a difference in the world.”
