Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn has returned home to the United States!
The 41-year-old revealed last Friday (February 13) that she was expected to undergo more surgeries after fracturing her left leg in a crash. The accident happened during the downhill competition at the Winter Olympics on February 8.
After being airlifted to the hospital, her teammate Breezy Johnson continued on and claimed the gold medal for Team USA.
One day after the accident, Vonn provided more details about her condition, confirming she had sustained a complicated fracture of her tibia. Although the break is stable, correcting it will involve several surgical procedures.
Lindsey Vonn Provides Update From Her Hospital Bed
Just days after the accident (February 11), Vonn then shared a series of photos from her hospital bed.
“I had my 3rd surgery today and it was successful,” she wrote. “Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago. I’m making progress and while it is slow, I know I’ll be ok.”

Vonn admitted that she had an extremely “hard few days,” but expressed gratitude to her medical team, family, and fans for their unwavering support during her recovery.
“I feel very lucky and fortunate to have so many people around me that have really helped me get through this,” she said.
On Saturday (February 14), the skier had an additional surgery in Italy, and shared that she would “finally” be able to return to the United States.
Vonn gave a heartfelt update on where she is currently at emotionally, which you can read below.

Lindsey Vonn Returns Home
On Tuesday (February 17), the Olympian posted that she is finally home. However, she is still unable to stand. Vonn also paid tribute to those in Italy who took good care of her.
“Haven’t stood on my feet in over a week… been in a hospital bed immobile since my race. And although I’m not yet able to stand, being back on home soil feels amazing,” Vonn wrote on social media.
Vonn shared a video of her journey getting back home, including a few ambulance rides to and from the airport.
Shortly after her accident at the Winter Olympics, Vonn’s father, Alan Kildow, said he believes it’s time for his daughter to retire from professional skiing.
“She’s 41 years old, and this is the end of her career,” Kildow said in an interview with the Associated Press. “There will be no more ski races for Lindsey Vonn, as long as I have anything to say about it.”
