Alan Osmond, The Oldest Member Of The Osmonds, Died On April 20th
Marie Osmond and her family are mourning the loss of their beloved brother, Alan.
Alan was the oldest member of the family who performed in their musical group, The Osmonds. He served as the band’s creative leader and co-wrote many of their songs.
Unfortunately, Alan was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1987, which led to his retirement from performing.

In addition to his work with The Osmonds, Alan played a key role in starting the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. ABC 4 out of Utah reports that the telethon has raised over $2 billion to help support children’s hospitals over the years. Alan also founded the One Heart Foundation, an organization that provides support to orphans.
Sadly, on Monday, April 21, news broke that 76-year-old Alan had passed away the previous evening (April 20). A family spokesperson and Alan’s younger brother, Merrill, were the first people to confirm the news.
Merrill shared that the last time he talked to Alan, he mentioned their late brother and bandmate, Wayne, who passed away last year (2025).
“In a tender moment I will never forget, he leaned close and whispered something into my ear. He said, ‘Merrill, you and I worked side by side. We created, we produced, we directed… we gave our hearts to The Plan with Wayne. Please… do something with it. Let people know what we were trying to say.’ I want you to know, his request will be honored.”
The Osmond family’s spokesperson also mentioned how Alan was looking forward to being reunited with Wayne. The spokesperson told ABC 4 that Alan once said, “[Wayne and I] still have a lot of work to do together- there is much catching up to keep us busy for a very long time.”
Marie Osmond Reveals Brother Alan’s Emotional Final Words To Her
Marie Osmond, the only daughter in the Osmond family, shared a heart-tugging tribute to her big brother Alan later on Tuesday, April 21. She wrote:
“Writing about your sibling’s passing is not something easily done. The years and years of memories I have of my big brother Alan could never be written in a few words—it would take volumes—but I shall try.”
Marie said Alan “was always very protective” of her, and was there whenever she needed him. She said the thing she admired the most about Alan was his love for God and his family.
Marie also spoke about Alan’s extraordinary career and many talents, highlighting his work behind the scenes. He directed her music video for her #1 solo country hit, “There’s No Stopping Your Heart.”
Marie fondly remembered a time when she and her husband flew Alan and the other original Osmond Brothers to Hawaii for one last performance. She recalled how a teary-eyed Alan told her, “So you’re producing me now.” Then, he hugged her and said, “Thank you, I get to be on stage one last time with my brothers.”
At the end of her tribute, Marie revealed the last thing Alan ever told her. Once again, he mentioned being reunited with Wayne:
“The last thing he said to me was, ‘I can’t wait to see brother Wayne, so we can be missionary companions together and start preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to those who never had the opportunity to hear his message of peace and hope in this life,’” Marie wrote.
Marie concluded her post by writing, “That’s my brother Alan!! I love you so very much and will miss you dearly.“
