Dutton Ranch follows Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and her husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) as start their next chapter after selling the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. They unexpectedly have to leave Montana and end up in Texas with their psuedo-adopted son, Carter (Finn Little). They soon realize that life in texas is not all that different than Montana.
Rip Wheeler Actor Reveals Meaning Behind The Name Of The Show
When Beth and Rip relocate to Texas, they buy a 500,000-acre ranch, previously owned by the Edwards family, and renamed it Dutton Ranch.
While doing press for Season One of hit show, Hauser sat down with Screen Rant, who asked him an important question.
“It’s Dutton Ranch, and not Wheeler Ranch,” the interviewer says. “Why is that?”
Hauser chuckles but then responds quickly, “Well, in honor of John Dutton. There’s not a scene that we were able to [shoot] this year, there’s so much going on with the moving to Texas and the pace of the show. So we saved it for maybe another time, but it’s in honor of John Dutton and the love that they both have for him. “
He continued, “Without John Dutton, where would Rip Wheeler be? He’s probably be in jail. [John] gave [Rip] a great opportunity and be a part of an amazing ranch and learn from him, his knowledge, his wisdom, his way of life.”
Plus…do you really think Beth would let Rip name their ranch after himself?! No chance.
Watch Hauser’s interview below, and tune in every Friday for a new episode of Dutton Ranch!
