The NASCAR community is mourning the loss of two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, who died on Thursday, May 21st. He celebrated his 41st birthday just 19 days prior.
Earlier on Thursday, the Busch family released a statement that read, “Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization.”
They didn’t go into detail about his illness and asked the public “for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation.”
Kyle had plans to race in the Coca-Cola 600 on May 24th. But when news broke that he was in the hospital, his team, Richard Childress Racing, announced that Austin Hill would step in to drive the No. 8 Chevrolet in his place.
Sadly, just a few hours later, NASCAR, RCR, and the Busch family shared that Kyle had passed away. They said:
“Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation. He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans.“
Kyle’s survivors include his wife of 15 years, Samantha, and their two children: Brexton and Lennix.
