Randy Travis Responds to AI Claims About His New Album
Randy Travis is setting the record straight after social media users questioned whether artificial intelligence was used to create his upcoming album.
The country legend’s new project, “Same Old Way,” is scheduled for release on November 13. Despite some online claims, the album was not created using AI. Instead, it features previously unreleased recordings that Randy made before his 2013 stroke.
Randy Travis Says His New Album Is Not AI
The confusion began after Randy’s team announced the new album and described it as a collection of never-before-released recordings.
Some social media users questioned how Randy could release new music after his stroke affected his ability to sing.
Randy addressed the speculation directly on September 16.
He shared a photo of himself holding a sign that simply read:
“No. My new album is not A.I.”
The clarification is important because the songs on Same Old Way were recorded years ago.
The recordings were kept in the vault and were later assembled, remixed and remastered by longtime producer Kyle Lehning, with Randy’s input.
The Songs Were Recorded Before Randy’s Stroke
Randy Travis suffered a stroke in 2013 that left him with aphasia and severely affected his ability to communicate and sing.
The new album does not attempt to create a new Randy Travis vocal performance using AI.
Instead, it gives fans access to recordings Randy made between 1986 and 2013 that had never previously been released.
That includes songs recorded at different stages of his career.
The album will contain 12 tracks, including “Fish On,” “I Don’t Care,” “Same Old Way,” “My Greatest Fear” and “Set The Blues Back.”
Why Fans Were Confused About AI
The confusion did not come completely out of nowhere.
Randy Travis did make headlines in 2024 when his team used AI technology to help create new music.
His song “Where That Came From” was produced with the help of AI and Randy’s previous vocal recordings, combined with vocals from singer James Dupré. Randy and his longtime producer Kyle Lehning were involved throughout the process.
That project became one of the most discussed examples of AI-assisted music in country music.
However, the same technology was not used to create the vocals for Same Old Way.
Country Rebel reported that the upcoming album instead relies on Randy’s original recordings from before his stroke.
Randy’s New Album Arrives in November
Same Old Way will be released on November 13, 2026.
The 12-song collection marks Randy’s first album of original material in more than 18 years, according to the project’s official announcement.
Three songs have already been released: “Fish On,” “I Don’t Care” and “Same Old Way.”
The title track was written by Randy Travis and his longtime producer Kyle Lehning. It is the first major songwriting credit Lehning has received on a song he co-wrote with Travis.
The project is arriving during a major year for Travis, as 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of his debut album, Storms of Life.
A Different Kind of Musical Comeback
For Randy Travis, Same Old Way represents something different from the AI-assisted recordings that attracted attention in 2024.
Rather than recreating his voice for newly recorded material, the new album brings previously unheard recordings from his own archives back to fans.
That makes the project both a new release and a look back at a different era of Travis’ career.
And after years of waiting, fans will finally get to hear 12 more songs from one of country music’s most recognizable voices.
