Three Horses Stabbed In Las Vegas Attack
On May 30, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a horse being stabbed in the equestrian barns at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa, where animals were being housed for the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) Supershow.
When officers arrived, they found three horses that had sustained injuries caused by a “sharp object,” according to a police press release. An investigation later identified a teenage girl as a suspect; authorities believe she may have used a knife to inflict multiple wounds on the animals.

Teenage Suspect Taken Into Custody
An unnamed teenage female was taken into custody at a nearby hotel and later booked into the Clark County Juvenile Hall, authorities said at the time.
She faces 12 counts of willful or malicious killing, maiming, or torturing an animal, along with three felony counts of malicious destruction of private property valued at more than $5,000.
Police said the injuries to the horses were not life-threatening but they prevented the horses from partaking in the competition.
Owners Share Updates On Injured Horses
Arielle Phillips, owner of one of the injured horses, has been sharing updates on the animal’s recovery status to social media.
In an emotional post on Friday (July 3), Phillips explains that she “forever” has to accept that her horse, Detail, lives with new fears due to the attack.
“I’ll have to accept that things will now be a little different as painful as it is. I had a little bit of a melt down when I was riding her on trail yesterday. She has new picked up “quirks and habits” clearly based off fear, and seeing that these new habits are happening every single ride really set me off. It breaks my heart for Detail,” Phillips says.
Phillips continued, saying that the night has completely changed everything for her and her horse.
“That one single night and one evil person could have changed my horse’s entire personality. It seems so unfair and just not ok. I’m trying so hard to hold onto the fact that she’s come SO far and is such a fighter, and praying that this too she will overcome with time,” Phillips shares.
Keira Weisbart, the owner of Rocket, recently shared a positive update about her horse who was stabbed in the attack.
“He’s healing so nicely, the wounds are completely closed on the outside but we are just waiting on the muscle to heal. I think soon we can increase his work which I know he’ll be happy about,” shared on June 24.
Weisbart emphasized how excited she was to get Rocket back out and riding.
Hailey Krahenbuhl provided a detailed update on her horse who was injured. Krahenbuhl is the proud owner of Sully, the sweet horse who was stabbed “multiple times.“
On Thursday (July 2), she shared that Sully’s right shoulder is taking a bit longer to heal.
“He will have some permanent cosmetic damage, which includes a dent on his neck from the fibrosis, but that’s why they call them battle scars. Sully is a survivor and he’s the strongest horse I know, the next month will consist of a lot of therapies. He’ll be super spoiled but he won’t know any different, my horses always receive the absolute best care,” Krahenbuhl explains.
