“You’re Going To Save A Fortune,” Promises Trump As He Announces Launch Of TrumpRx.gov

TrumpRx.gov Touted As Meaningful Change In Prescription Drug Affordability For Americans

“We’re here this evening to celebrate the launch of one of the most transformative healthcare initiatives of all time,” said President Donald Trump in an announcement made on Thursday, Feb. 5. “Starting tonight, dozens of the most commonly used prescription drugs will be available at dramatic discounts for all consumers.”

TrumpRx.gov, which was the subject of Trump’s announcement, was formally launched last night, with Trump prefacing it was “a very big deal.”

“For years, politicians from both parties have promised to bring down prescription drug prices and make healthcare more affordable, but they all failed,” said Trump. “I’m actually getting it done, and it is done.”

Continuing, Trump said:

“This launch represents the largest reduction in prescription drug prices in history by many, many times … Americans have long been paying the highest drug prices anywhere in the world while other countries often pay pennies on the dollar for the exact same drugs. We’re essentially subsidizing the entire world.”

Noting that the United States makes up only 4% of the world’s population, consuming 13% of all prescription drugs in the world, Trump stated that Americans are the source of 75% of all profits made by pharmaceutical companies.

It has been Trump’s hope that the policies he’s put in place, including tariffs, lead to significant changes on this front.

Now, the first fruits from the Trump administration’s Most-Favored Nations policy is on display.

Through the Most-Favored Nation policy that Trump announced in May of 2025, America pays “the lowest price paid by any other country” for prescriptions, explained Trump.

“It’s a tremendous reduction,” Trump added.

Further, Trump said that his tariff policy was being used as leverage to ensure the lowest prices could be achieved.

The Trump administration’s implementation of tariffs has been highly controversial, with the Supreme Court presently considering a case as to whether they have been rightfully used. If the tariff policy is found to be unconstitutional, it would potentially prove to be a costly decision, with tariffs being refunded to impacted nations.

For now, it remains a valuable negotiating tool for the Trump administration, and TRumpRx.gov is one example of its implementation.

Among the prescription drugs seeing reductions in cost through TrumpRx are popular weight loss drugs known GLP-1s, including Ozempic and Wegovy.

Looking on TrumpRx.gov, an Ozempic Pen is listed as having an original price of $1,027.51, but is now available for $199.

Similarly, a Wegovy Pill sees a savings of $1,200, as it drops from $1,349.02 to $149.

Then, there are also deals that have been achieved for common inhalers, as well as IVF drugs.

Asked to deliver remarks on the launch of TrumpRx.gov, Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, said:

“It’s free, you get to look at all the prices, and you should not be buying drugs anymore, going forward, without at least checking to see if those medications are available at these discounted prices on TrumpRx.gov,”

Continuing, Oz said this was part of a goal to “fulfill the dream of making drugs accessible,” adding that one of every three Americans cannot afford their prescriptions.

Trump described this effort as a significant part of his “America First” agenda. It is also a core aspect of the Make America Healthy Again movement, often referred to simply as MAHA, which has been led by HHS Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Detailing how this was accomplished, Trump said, “The dozens of commonly used drugs available today are just the beginning16 of the 17 largest pharmaceutical companies have signed agreements … committing that, going forward, all new medicines they bring to the market in the United States will be available at Most-Favored Nation prices.”

Trump added that the 17th pharmaceutical company would soon be signing on to the Most-Favored Nation policy as well.

“We’re tired of subsidizing the world, we have to put America first,” Trump declared.

Closing out his initial remarks, Trump said, “By the way, everybody, you’re going to save a fortune, and this is also so good for overall healthcare.”
