Kayce Dutton’s Story Continues In Marshals

The CBS series Marshals expands the world of Yellowstone by shifting the focus from the sprawling Yellowstone Dutton Ranch to the dangerous front lines of federal law enforcement in Montana.

While Yellowstone explored the political and personal battles over land, power, and legacy, Marshals dives deeper into the modern West through the eyes of officers tasked with maintaining order across rugged and often lawless territory. The series preserves the same gritty tone, cinematic landscapes, and morally complex storytelling that made Yellowstone a cultural phenomenon.

Karmelo Anthony’s Parents Our Son Didn’t Get A Fair Trial!!!

June 11, 2026

The show follows Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes, whose military background and conflicted sense of justice made him one of the standout figures in Yellowstone. In Marshals, the narrative follows his transition into a broader law-enforcement role, where he confronts organized crime, local corruption, and the blurred line between duty and family loyalty.

Following the passing of his wife, Monica, Kayce attempts to find a new purpose with his son Tate, which for the time being is serving justice with the US Marshals, led by his old Navy SEAL buddy, Pete “Cal” Calvin (Logan Marshall-Greene).

The Marshals team is comprised of Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos), Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel), and Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means).

A couple episodes ago, Kayce and Cal were paid a visit by another Navy SEAL brother, Garrett, played by country singer Riley Green. He showed up as a way to run away from his demons, but he seemed to start overcoming them when Kayce gave him some duties around his ranch on East Camp. Sadly, the ranch sustained a fire and although Kayce was able to pull Garrett from the fire, he ended up succumbing to his injuries at the hospital, shocking the entire team, including his new romantic interest Andrea.

A recap of the show prior to Episode 12 also reminded us that Kayce had entertained a new love interest, Dolly Weaver, and was given the opportunity to sell his land to a new rancher, her father Tom Weaver, who Kayce and Pete saved in Episode 4. Since he initially became upset at the proposition, we were excited to see this storyline continue. Additionally, we were reminded that Belle began gambling at the casino and seemed to be in over her head.

Continue reading for our full recap of Episode 12 of Marshals.

Episode 12: “The Devil At Home”

Episode 12 begins at East Camp, with Kayce, Cal, Tate, Dolly, and Tom cleaning up the damages from the fire that took Garrett’s life. Tom was apologetic for all of Kayce’s losses, but reiterated his interest in buying their property so Kayce could start new after all the tragedies he’s endured.

For a split second, it did look like he was considering it. A few scenes later, Tate asks him about the proposition and Kayce tells him that even if ranching isn’t what Tate wants to do with his life, East Camp is still his home.

“Home isn’t about land for me, Dad. It’s wherever you are,” Tate tells him. “East Camp is great, but it’s where Mom got sick and died.”

Belle, her husband, and their son were strolling around town when they took a break to get coffee. As Belle was in line, she was confronted by a man who knew her with both of the names she goes by, and told her that the casino wants the $20,000 she owes them. Despite saying, “I’m good for it,” the man threatens to expose her lies to her family and co-workers, and to not be as gracious the next time they meet.

At the bar, Andrea, Cal, and Kayce pay their respects to Garrett, while Miles was chatting it up with Maddie, Cal’s daughter and the bartender.

The next morning, the team starts to arrive at Headquarters, where they got their next assignment, a fugitive named Cody Rainer, a carjacker who killed a student in Arkansas two years before.

Chief U.S. Marshal Harry Gifford (Brett Cullen) pulled Andrea aside to invite her to a lunch with people who want to meet the heroic Marshal who was just rescued from being captured by the Clegg family, who have been fixtures in the entire first season.

Miles arrives at Headquarters and tells Cal that his friend Sabrina passed away from an overdose, and blames himself for not helping her more.

Cal, Kayce, and Belle let Miles mourn his friend while they go try to bring in Cody. He tries to flee, but they shoot out his tires, causing him to crash and expose a million dollars in cash stuffed in the seats of the car.

He claims the money is not his, but the gun he was carrying matches the ballistics of a bullet that was used in a crime in Texas. The Marshals formulate a plan to try and get him to give them information o nthe cartels he was working with.

At Broken Rock, Miles spats with Chairman Rainwater, who wants to move past Sabrina’s death and focus on their upcoming speech in front of Congress. Miles seems determined not to let Sabrina’s death go in vain, and is on a mission to find out who supplied her with the drugs that took her life.

Although Andrea couldn’t get Cody to talk, Cal was able to get his phone location data, which placed him at the Broken Rock Reservation several times. While investigating the location where Cody was tracked many times, the Marshals found an abandoned trailer and a midden stash of enough fentanyl to kill the entire reservation.

The team figured out how the drugs got on the reservation and as they were going to start to plan their next move, a DEA agent came in and revealed to the team that Cody had been stabbed in custody and died. Marshal Gifford told the team to stand down, which angered Miles most of all.

The next morning, Maddie frantically arrives at Headquarters to tell her dad that Miles never showed up to their date the night before. Turns out, he went rogue, against the higher ups orders. Luckily, the team was able to track him down before he got killed by the Mexican drug cartel that had infiltrated the reservation.

After a gunfight, Miles tracked down the person who brought the drugs in and Kayce had to talk him off the ledge from killing him, having had so much experience in vengeance.

When they return to HQ, so much happens, but we will try to recap it quickly.

Due to his actions, Cal has no choice but to suspend Miles. Then, Chief Marshal Gifford offers Andrea her job in DC back, which seems to conflict her, seeing as she is finally getting used to Montana.

It’s clear Belle’s bad choices are catching up to her, as Cal informs her that her security clearance needs to be renewed and if she doesn’t the government will think she’s hiding something…which she is.

Belle looks as though she is going to reveal her gambling debt and trouble to Cal, but he cuts her off to tell her that he has a tumor on the top of his lung, which causes him to have intense shoulder and neck pain.

“It’s a rare symptom of cancer,” he reveals.

Belle immediately jumps into caretaker mode and starts asking questions about his treatment plan, but he tells her, “Right now I just don’t want to feel like I’m staring this down alone.”

In the final scene of the penultimate episode, Kayce asks Tom and Dolly to come to his house to explain what a deal with them would look like.

There are so many questions that still need to be answered in the Season One finale of the show, which will air on CBS on Sunday, May 24th. We’re almost positive that they won’t wrap everything up in a bow since the show has already been picked up for Season Two.
