Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s Mission To “Make America Healthy Again”
On February 13, 2025, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was sworn in as the Secretary of Health and Human Services for the United States.
President Trump announced RFK Jr. as his pick for this position in November 2024 after he won the presidential election.
“The Safety and Health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this Country. Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!,” Trump said at the time.
Since then, RFK’s mission has been to “reform America’s food, health, and scientific systems to identify the root causes of the chronic disease epidemic and Make America Healthy Again.”
RFK Jr.’s Plan To Eliminate Synthetic Dyes
Just a few months following his nomination, RFK Jr. revealed a plan to eliminate eight petroleum-based synthetic dyes from the American food supply.
His announcement marked the beginning of an approach to remove harmful food coloring including Red No. 3, Yellow No. 5 and Blue No. 1.
Red No. 3, formally known as erythrosine, is a synthetic food dye used to give food and drinks a bright red color. Around the same time, The Food and Drug Administration also decided to ban its use over concerns that the dye is linked to cancer.
“We’re going to do real science, and we’re gonna do science precisely on the issues that Americans care about,” RFK said. “Making sure their kids are getting food that isn’t poison. The food our kids are eating today is not really food. It’s food-like substances.”

RFK Jr. Unveils Updated Dietary Guidelines
Under RFK’s newly released U.S. dietary guidelines, Americans are urged to prioritize protein and “healthy fats” and to limit their intake of ultraprocessed foods and added sugar.
“These Guidelines return us to the basics,” Kennedy said. “American households must prioritize whole, nutrient-dense foods—protein, dairy, vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, and whole grains—and dramatically reduce highly processed foods. This is how we Make America Healthy Again.”
RFK explained that the new guidelines replace “corporate driven assumptions” with “common sense goals.”
“These new guidelines will revolutionize our nation’s food culture,” he continued. “And Make America Healthy Again.”
The most notable change within the newly revised food pyramid puts meats, cheese and vegetables in the widest part at the top, and whole grains at the bottom.
Under the 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines, Americans are advised to consume more protein than before, with recommendations now tied to body weight.
The model suggests 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kilogram per day, which translates to roughly 82 to 109 grams daily for a 150-pound person.
“The new Dietary Guidelines for Americans defines real food as whole, nutrient-dense, and naturally occurring, placing them back at the center of our diets,” the government’s new “Eat Rool Food” website states.
