Marshals Welcomes Many New Faces
Actor Luke Grimes returned to the role as Kayce as well as Broken Rock chairman Thomas Rainwater (played by Gil Birmingham). The spin-off also welcomed a new cast-member, Logan Marshall-Green, who will play Pete “Cal” Calvin, a close friend from Kayce’s military past.
Longtime viewers are of course seeing a few familiar faces since the show is a follow-up, but it also introduces many brand-new characters as well.
One character, in particular, has had fans eagerly waiting. When the first trailer for season one dropped, sharp-eyed viewers caught a fleeting moment that many might have missed, a quick glimpse of none other than Riley Green.
That split-second appearance was enough to spark major buzz, with fans speculating about the country singer’s potential role in the western drama. While it hinted at an acting debut, CBS stayed silent on the matter at the time. It wasn’t until late February that the network finally confirmed he would be part of the series.

This is Riley’s first acting role, and it’s a pretty big one to land without prior experience. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the show’s premiere, the singer shared that he was introduced to the opportunity by his longtime friend and the show’s star, Luke Grimes.
The two are friends in real life and have even worked together before, since Luke is also a country singer. When Riley mentioned his interest in acting, Luke helped connect him with an audition, and from there, everything moved fast.
Episode 8 Recap: Riley Green Makes His Big Acting Debut
On Sunday (April 19), the wait was finally over, and Riley officially made his acting debut on the new hit series!
The episode kicked off with Riley’s character, Garrett’s, arrival. He showed up in Kayce’s part of the ranch by bus, carrying only a bag and a guitar case. Tate (Brecken Merrill) alerted his dad about a stranger at the East Camp house, but there was no real threat. Kayce and Cal (who were out riding with the Duttons) recognized Garrett immediately, though the bad blood between him and Cal was obvious.
The conversation revealed that the three men had served together in Afghanistan, along with a fourth member of their close-knit unit who was killed in the line of duty. Since leaving the military, Garrett had turned to music. He was initially warm with his fellow veterans and shared that he’d found some success in Nashville, but a nightmare about their fallen comrade triggered a violent reaction when Kayce tried to wake him.
Garrett later admitted that he’d been “in and out of jail, psych wards, rehab, sleeping on the streets” since his discharge, adding that their final deployment in Afghanistan “changed everything.” Haunted by guilt over his friend’s death, he struggled to move forward.
Kayce reassured him that it wasn’t his fault and explained how working on his family’s ranch helped him cope with his own trauma. He offered Garrett a place to stay for as long as he needed, until he could find a new direction.

In this week’s episode, the Marshals also pursued Reed Pollard, a highly wanted bank robber who was reportedly spotted in the area. The lead quickly fell apart, however, when an ambush at a rodeo revealed that Pollard had already been in a small-town jail for several days, making the tip a complete dead end.
Cal is also hit with a double blow this episode, dealing with the aftermath of his ill-fated kiss with Belle and learning that Miles is dating his daughter, Maddie. Although he insists on keeping things professional, it’s clear he’s letting his personal feelings spill over and resents Belle for rejecting him and Miles for getting close to Maddie.
While Kayce makes a trip home to check on Garrett, Cal sends Andrea off alone to the ballistics lab to process the shooters’ weapons, as he leaves for a conveniently ill-timed doctor’s appointment.
As if Cal didn’t already have enough on his plate, the doctor suggests he may be facing a serious health issue. While the conversation is cut off before anything is clearly revealed, it’s evident the diagnosis is significant
After Andrea was deliberately forced off the road, she is taken captive by unknown assailants. The mystery was short-lived, as her kidnappers take her to a property in the middle of nowhere and admit themselves as she comes face to face with Randall.
Andrea’s fellow Marshals mounted a rescue attempt by the end of the hour, but viewers will have to wait until next week to see how it all plays out.
