How did Lainey Wilson and Devlin “Duck” Hodges meet?
Mutual friends introduced the pair in 2021, and they dated privately for two and a half years before going public with their relationship. They were set up by mutual friends, and ended their first date at a since-closed country bar north of Nashville called Silverados.
In an interview with People, Lainey recalled the bar was offering “free beer and wine from 5 PM to 10 PM.” She appreciated her new beau’s frugal approach and thought to herself:
“I was like, ‘This boy likes to ball on a budget, too. This is gonna work out!”
According to a close friend, Lainey predicted that she would marry the former NFL quarterback and champion duck caller after that infamous first date almost four years ago.

Ahead of the 2023 CMA Awards, Lainey revealed to Taste of Country that Duck lived with her on her Nashville-area farm but that she “put him to work.” She said:
“He’s got a long list of things. I’m like: ‘Take the trash out, mow the yard, do something with the flower beds, feed the dog.’”
How did Duck pop the question?
In a December 2024 interview on the Dumb Blonde podcast, Wilson joked with host Bunnie Xo that she might just have to pop the question herself.
However, Duck did not take long to get things in gear. He proposed to his future wife on the steps of a mansion in Franklin, Tennessee, formerly owned by country legend George Jones, on February 12, 2025. And she said yes!
Lainey is a self-admitted big fan of Jones, affectionately known as “The Possum,” and has previously said she feels they would have been “great friends.” She even paid tribute to the late singer with her song “Keep Up With Jones.”
