Lainey Wilson Sings “Amazing Grace” for 9/11
Wilson joined Cyndi Lauper and John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting for the special “9/11 Tribute in Light: Live From Lower Manhattan.”
Each artist performed at the base of the two beams that light up the New York skyline every September 11. The beams represent the Twin Towers and have been part of the annual remembrance since 2002.
For the first time, the Tribute in Light commemoration was broadcast live as part of a national television special.
Wilson chose the beloved hymn “Amazing Grace” for her performance.
She also stepped away from her familiar country style for the occasion. Wearing a black suit and backed by a choir, she delivered the hymn in front of the memorial lights.
The performance quickly touched viewers, with many people praising Wilson online and saying the rendition brought them to tears.
Wilson Spoke About the Meaning of 9/11
Before taking the stage, Wilson shared how honored she was to be part of the historic commemoration.
“The courage, bravery, and heroism displayed in response to 9/11 is a reminder of who we are as Americans and the strength and compassion we show one another at our most difficult moments,” Wilson said in a statement.
She also highlighted the first responders, families and communities whose lives were forever changed by the tragedy.
A Night of Remembrance
The 2026 ceremony marked 25 years since the September 11, 2001 attacks that killed 2,977 people.
The special honored victims, survivors, first responders and families while also reflecting on the lasting impact of that day. It was hosted from New York City and featured performances beneath the famous Tribute in Light beams.
For Lainey Wilson, the moment was very different from the large country music stages where fans usually see her.
There were no flashy outfits or upbeat country hits.
Instead, she stood beneath the memorial lights and let the words and music speak for themselves.
Her performance of “Amazing Grace” gave country music fans another emotional moment to remember from the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
