Kelly Clarkson is giving her fans a special gift this Christmas.
On Thursday, December 11, it was announced that she will be the opening performer for Netflix’s NFL Christmas Football Game Day.
Clarkson will perform her hit holiday song “Underneath the Tree” live on December 25, just before the two NFL games air exclusively on the streaming service.
Viewers tuning in will first see the Dallas Cowboys take on the Washington Commanders. Following that will be the Detroit Lions facing off against the Minnesota Vikings.
After the news was shared, Clarkson posted a video on social media letting fans know how excited she is. She even made it very clear what team she’s going to be rooting for on the sidelines.
“Okay, so for Christmas this year, I’m very stoked,” she began. “I was asked by Netflix to do the show open for the football games on Christmas Day. There’s two of them. There’s one that matters. It’s where the Cowboys are playing…and then there’s another one,” she joked.
She also talked a bit about what fans can expect. Although she isn’t able to share much, she teased a few details about her performance.
“All the football players and cheerleaders [are] involved in it,” she shared. “It’s really, really cool.”
Football fans can start watching at 11 a.m. for pregame coverage. The Cowboys vs. Commanders game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET, followed by the Lions vs. Vikings at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Clarkson’s role in Netflix’s NFL Christmas Football Game Day is a perfect fit, since she’s proven over and over that she’s the queen of Christmas music.
Over the years, she has released holiday music that has become a staple in households all over the world.
Her first Christmas album, Wrapped in Red, came out in 2013 and included five original songs along with 11 classic covers. She followed that up in 2021 with another holiday album, When Christmas Comes Around.
Every holiday season, she also takes the stage on her daytime talk show to sing a few of her favorite carols. Clarkson has given powerful performances of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “White Christmas,” “Run Run Rudolph,” and more.
