Jake Worthington is putting his music career on pause.
The 30-year-old country singer has spent more than a decade in the spotlight after getting his big break on The Voice. He finished as the runner-up on Season 6 in 2014.
But now, according to Worthington, it’s time to fully focus on his personal life instead.
On Friday, May 22, he shared a major life update on social media. In the post, the “It Ain’t the Whiskey” singer revealed that he will be stepping away from music for now.
Worthington didn’t go into detail about what exactly led to the decision. His statement hinted that the pressures of fame may have affected him in some way.
He says he wants to be better for his wife and daughter.
“I live a life as my heroes did, but that life gotten ahold of me,” Worthington wrote on Instagram. “I love my family, my friends and my fans too much to let it take over me. I need to take some time to work on myself for my wife and daughter.”
“I promise I will come back even better,” he continued. “God bless country music.”

Not long after Worthington shared his statement, supportive comments started to pour in. Even several country stars left messages to show they are standing behind him during this time.

Worthington didn’t say how long his hiatus would be, but for now, it appears he still plans to move forward with the rest of his scheduled shows this year.
According to his official website, the singer has tour dates beginning in July and continuing through the end of October, including shows where he’ll open for artists such as Luke Bryan, Gavin Adcock, HARDY, and Brad Paisley.
This isn’t the first time fans have seen a country star step back from the spotlight. Just this year alone, artists like Randall King, Colter Wall, and Chase Rice have announced they’ll be taking an indefinite break from touring and performing.
