George Strait Turns Down CBS Interview About Kennedy Center Honors, “Let The Music Speak For Itself”

George Strait Receives Kennedy Center Honor
The King of Country Music, George Strait, is among the 48th class of Kennedy Center Honorees who were celebrated earlier this month. The additional distinguished recipients include stage actor Michael Crawford, film actor Sylvester Stallone, disco singer Gloria Gaynor, and rock band KISS.
The annual tradition highlights individuals “whose work has shaped our cultural landscape,” with an emphasis on how their lives have furthered “the power of the arts.”

Ahead of the official ceremony, the honorees assembled at the Oval Office of the White House to meet with President Donald Trump, who is chairman of the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees.
The president presented each with a medal and asserted that this might be the “most accomplished and renowned class” in the history of the Kennedy Center Honors. He added:
“This is a group of icons whose work and accomplishments have inspired, uplifted, and unified millions and millions of Americans.”
The Strait Family Attends The Ceremony In Rare Public Appearance
On December 7th, the new class was welcomed with a star-studded concert celebration at the Kennedy Center. This ceremony was crafted into a television special that will air on CBS on December 23.
Hosted by President Trump, the event featured tributes to the five honorees. Miranda Lambert, Vince Gill, Brooks & Dunn, and Alan Jackson paid homage to their fellow country star with performances in his honor.
Additional special guests for the evening included Strait’s wife, Norma, their son, Bubba, daughter-in-law, Tamara, and grandchildren, Harvey (13) and Jilliann (9). The children keep a low profile and are rarely photographed in public. Their presence signified just how momentous the evening was. See the sweet family photo below!

George Strait Declines Interview, Redirects Focus To The Music
Typically, CBS Mornings profiles the new class of honorees every year, conducting an interview with each individual. However, the network described him as a “reluctant royal” after he declined to be interviewed about his latest accolade.
Instead, Strait wished to “let the music speak for itself.”
