Susan Smith, the oldest daughter of country music legend George Jones, has died at the age of 75.
Smith passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2026, in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Her obituary was shared through George Jones’ official Facebook account and confirmed by her family’s obituary.

Susan Marie Smith was born in Houston, Texas, on October 29, 1951, to George Jones and his first wife, Dorothy Bonvillion.
Her parents’ marriage ended around the time of her birth. George Jones later served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Unlike her famous father, Susan largely stayed away from the spotlight and built a quiet life centered around her family.
She married Harmon Smith in Nashville on September 9, 1972. The couple went on to build a family together.

Susan was remembered as a devoted homemaker who placed her family at the center of her life.
She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, as well as reading and music.
She is survived by her husband, Harmon Smith; her children, Jennifer Stultz and Michael Smith; and her grandchildren, Laura Stultz, Jason Stultz and Charlotte Smith.
She is also survived by her stepmother, Nancy Jones, and her stepsisters, Adina Estes and Sherry Hohimer.

Susan was the first of George Jones’ four children.
The country legend later welcomed sons Bryan and Jeffrey with his second wife, Shirley Ann Corley. He also had daughter Georgette Jones with country music icon Tammy Wynette.
While Susan chose a private life, her connection to one of country music’s greatest legends remained an important part of the George Jones family story.
George Jones died in 2013 at the age of 81. His music and legacy continue to influence country music fans around the world.
Susan’s family has announced that a private service will be held at a later date.
