Cody Johnson has country fans swooning over his latest song, “Take Me Back (Leave Me There).”
On May 29th, a little less than two weeks after he won the ACM’s Entertainer of the Year award, Johnson released a new track from his upcoming album, Banks of the Trinity. Titled “Take Me Back (Leave Me There),” the steamy song has Johnson’s narrator wishing he could take a trip back in time.
As the song opens, he sings about being lonely and yearning for a woman who used to be in his life. He remembers their romance and the intimate moments they shared, singing:
“Take me back,
And leave me there,
Your blue jeans hanging off of your bedroom chair.
Sun coming through the blinds,
And hands running through your hair, baby,
Take me back,
And leave me there.”
The track was written by Kelly Archer, Troy Cartwright, and Pete Good. After the excitement of the past few weeks, Johnson felt compelled to share it with the world.
“‘Take Me Back (Leave Me There)’” is out now,” Johnson wrote on Instagram on the day of the song’s release. “It’s been an unbelievable couple of weeks, so I figured I’d give y’all another one. This one’s for the kind of memories that still find their way back every now and then.”
