With summer nearly upon us, rodeo season is in full swing.
For the participants and competitors, no rodeo is without its fair share of danger, but that’s part of the risk involved in rodeo sports and why audiences have continued attending rodeos for the past century or so.
Earlier this May, the second annual Seamark Rodeo at the Ranch was held at the Seamark Ranch located in Green Cove Springs, Florida.
There, competitions like barrel racing, bull riding, and bronco riding were all held.
For one cowboy, who has not been identified, there was a very close call as he was caught hanging upside down during his ride of a particularly rowdy bucking bronco.
At first, four members of the crew, including some rodeo clowns, could be seen in a video shared from the event as they to help free the cowboy.
Over the speakers, the announcer can be heard saying, “Cowboy is hung up by his chaps over his saddle horn.”
For about 10 seconds, the rider’s head is dragging along the dirt below. His hat can be seen being pushed away early on with as his head repeatedly hits the ground.
Then, several other cowboys enter, stopping the horse in its tracks. One can even be seen pulling the horse’s tail.
From there, they manage to successfully pull the cowboy loose, bringing him to safety.
Altogether, it’s a suspenseful 17-second moment, but the team of cowboys pull off the daring rescue so that the show can go on.
This video has gone viral with added music on TikTok, but the full video with the original audio tells the story much better.
