Katherine Short Found Deceased In Her Hollywood Home

Katherine Short, the eldest daughter of award-winning actor Martin Short and Nancy Dolman, died on February 23rd. She was 42 years old.

TMZ reports that authorities were called to her Hollywood Hills home at approximately 6:40 pm on Monday on reports of a possible suicide. Upon their arrival, Katherine was found deceased. Law enforcement has reportedly told the outlet that she died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Nancy, Katherine’s mother and Martin’s wife, died in 2010 from Ovarian Cancer. She and the actor were married for 30 years. Additionally, they have two sons: Oliver (39) and Henry (36).

Statement Released By Family Representative

In an update shared Tuesday afternoon, TMZ obtained a statement from a family representative. It read:

“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”

Katherine graduated from New York University in 2006 and later received a master’s degree from the University of Southern California School of Social Work in 2010. She had previously worked with Bring Change To Mind, a nonprofit combating the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Martin Short Confirms The Death Of His “Beloved Daughter”

On Tuesday evening, Martin Short confirmed Katherine’s death via a statement made online. Along with two photos next to his daughter, he wrote:

“There are no words for the depth of this loss. Our family is devastated, and we ask for privacy as we grieve this unimaginable heartbreak. Katherine was the light of our lives full of warmth, kindness, and a joy that touched everyone she met.”
