Authorities investigating the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie intensified their search efforts Friday, blocking off a road near the victim’s neighborhood and detaining three people during a SWAT operation.
One of the men was later released after investigators determined he was not involved, and no arrests have been made.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed on social media that law enforcement activity was underway at a residence near East Orange Grove Road and North First Avenue, a short distance from Guthrie’s home.
“Law enforcement activity is underway at a residence near E Orange Grove Rd & N First Ave related to the Guthrie case,” the department posted.
“Because this is a joint investigation, at the request of the FBI — no additional information is currently available.”
Multiple agencies, including the FBI, sheriff’s deputies, and SWAT officers, were seen surrounding the area after investigators reportedly acted on a tip.
Sources close to the investigation said authorities detained and questioned three individuals but did not make any arrests.
One of the detained individuals was released after police determined he was not involved in the kidnapping.
“The man was cooperative,” sources said.
