Carrie Underwood loves her life as a country music superstar, but it’s not necessarily the path she wants her kids to take… at least for now.
Earlier this week, Carrie Underwood and her fellow American Idol judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie appeared on The View as part of a series of interviews promoting Season 24 of the singing competition. American Idol is currently airing on ABC, with live shows coming up.
This is Carrie’s second season on the Idol judging panel. She made her debut in Season 23, exactly two decades after winning the show herself.
As many already know, she competed in 2005 and won the entire competition at just 21 years old.
Needless to say, auditioning for the show was one of the best decisions she ever made. That said, it’s not something she would recommend for everyone.
Carrie Explains Why She Won’t Let Her Sons Audition For A Singing Show
During her time on The View, Carrie was asked if she’d ever consider letting her two sons, Isaiah (11) and Jacob (7), try out for a show like that, and her response might surprise you.
The “Blown Away” singer shared that both of her boys have inherited her love for singing, with Isaiah especially showing a passion for music. Still, Carrie feels the timing just isn’t right.
“He’s mini-me in so many ways, but I don’t think I would,” she says about letting him audition for a singing competition. “He would need to be older and more established in himself before I would give my blessing on getting into it.”
Carrie has never really pushed her kids to follow in her footsteps. When she’s off stage, she makes it a point to keep her personal life separate from the spotlight.
“Home is home,” Carrie stated. “Being on stage and being at home, those are two different people, pretty much. And I love that because they’ll come to shows and they’ll see me do what I do. And I feel that they’re proud, but then Mom makes dinner.”
“I hope more than anything, that’s what they take away from me,” she continued. “And that’s what they remember about me. She was Mom, and then every once in a while, she’d go and get on stage.”
Carrie’s kids will get to see even more of her in action in the upcoming episodes of American Idol. If you’ve been tuning in since the late February premiere, you know the episodes so far have been pre-taped, so viewers haven’t seen live performances just yet.
Well, that’s all about to change. Live shows begin Monday, March 30, with “Songs of Faith” night. By the end of the episode, the Top 20 contestants will be narrowed down to the Top 12 finalists.
