Brad Arnold, founding member and lead singer of rock band 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 47.
Brad Arnold’s death comes nine months after he announced that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.
3 Doors Down announced Arnold’s passing in a post made to Instagram that read,
“With heavy hearts, we share the news that Brad Arnold, founder, lead singer, and songwriter of 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday, February 7, at the age of 47,” the post read.
“With his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side, he passed away peacefully , surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep, after a courageous battle with cancer.”
His bandmates remembered him as a “devoted husband to Jennifer” whose “kindness, humor, and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.”
Arnold announced his cancer diagnosis in May of 2025.
In a video message shared to social media, Brad told fans that he had been sick and had gone to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with Stage 4 clear cell renal carcinoma that had metastasized into his lung.
“It’s not good, but you know what? We serve a mighty God and He can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all,” he said at the time.
About 3 Doors Down
3 Doors Down was a Mississippi-based rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist and drummer Brad Arnold, guitarist and background vocalist Matt Roberts, and bass guitarist Todd Harrell.
In 2000, the band’s debut single, “Kryptonite,” launched them to super stardom. The single, written by Brad Arnold in a math class when he was only 15, fueled the success of their debut album, The Better Life. The 11-track project was certified septuple platinum in 2020, with sales of more than 7 million albums.
Many other singles followed, but “Kryptonite” remained the band’s biggest hit.
Brad Arnold was the only founding member to remain with 3 Doors Down until his death. Matt Roberts left the band in 2012 to focus on his health. Roberts died in 2016 of a prescription drug overdose. He was 38.
In 2013, Todd Harrell was arrested for vehicular homicide and sentenced to two years in prison. He officially left the band in 2014 after another DUI arrest.
