Jay-Z Announced as Super Bowl LXI Halftime Performer
Jay-Z is officially taking the Super Bowl stage.
The rapper has been announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, marking one of the biggest moments of his three-decade career.
The announcement was made Monday night during the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles game.
Jay-Z Will Headline Super Bowl LXI
Jay-Z will perform during halftime of Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027.
The game will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The announcement came from the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation, which has partnered with the NFL on the halftime show since 2019.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had previously hoped Jay-Z would eventually take the stage himself.
Now, that moment is officially happening.
A Major Moment For Jay-Z
The upcoming performance comes during a major year for Jay-Z.
The rapper is celebrating 30 years since the release of his debut album, “Reasonable Doubt.”
He has also continued to play a major role behind the scenes in shaping the Super Bowl halftime show through Roc Nation.
Jay-Z has won 25 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
His Super Bowl performance will now add another major milestone to his career.
Country Fans Had Hoped For a Different Performer
Before the announcement, there had been plenty of speculation about who would headline Super Bowl LXI.
Some country music fans had launched petitions calling for stars such as George Strait and Carrie Underwood to take the stage.
Luke Combs also previously said he believed it was time for a country singer to headline the Super Bowl halftime show.
Instead, the NFL has selected Jay-Z.
Country artists have rarely been featured as the main halftime performers. Shania Twain performed during the 2003 Super Bowl, while a group of country stars including Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, The Judds, and Charlie Daniels appeared during the 1994 “Rockin’ Country Sunday” halftime show.
When Is Super Bowl LXI?
Super Bowl LXI will be played on Sunday, February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium.
Jay-Z will headline the halftime entertainment on one of the biggest stages in the world.
For an artist who has spent decades influencing music and popular culture, the Super Bowl stage represents another historic chapter in his career.
