Kayleigh Matthews Takes On a Vince Gill Classic
Matthews chose one of Vince Gill’s most beloved songs for her Blind Audition.
“When I Call Your Name” is a major challenge for any vocalist. The song is known for its emotional delivery and demanding vocal moments.
Matthews gave the song her own interpretation and quickly impressed the coaches.
Riley Green praised her decision to perform a Vince Gill song, calling Gill one of the greatest vocalists in country music.
He admitted that Matthews had “big shoes to fill,” but believed she more than lived up to the challenge.
All Four Coaches Turned Their Chairs
As Matthews continued singing, the coaches could not resist.
All four eventually turned their chairs, giving the country singer a choice between every coach on the panel.
Kelly Clarkson was especially impressed by Matthews’ vocal tone.
She compared her voice to some of her favorite female country singers, including Patty Loveless and LeAnn Rimes.
Riley Green also connected with the performance because it reminded him of the country music he grew up listening to in Alabama.
He told Matthews that he would love to work with her and believed they could create something special together.
Adam Levine Makes His Pitch
With all four coaches competing for Matthews, the audition quickly became a battle for her attention.
Adam Levine even dropped to one knee while making his pitch.
Each coach had their own reasons for wanting Matthews on their team.
After hearing all four arguments, Matthews had a difficult decision to make.
Kayleigh Matthews Chooses Queen Latifah
Despite coming from a country music background, Matthews ultimately surprised everyone with her decision.
She chose Queen Latifah as her coach.
The choice means Matthews will continue her journey on “The Voice” with one of the show’s newest coaches.
Her powerful Vince Gill performance had already made one thing clear: she has the vocal ability to make a serious impact on the competition.
And with all four coaches turning their chairs, Matthews has already established herself as one of the singers to watch this season.
