Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” Makes Streaming History With 1 Billion Spotify Plays
Dolly Parton’s timeless classic “Jolene” has reached another historic milestone.
The legendary country song has officially surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. It is now the 20th country song in history to reach the massive streaming mark.
Originally released on October 15, 1973, “Jolene” has remained one of the most recognizable songs in country music for more than five decades.
The achievement also makes it the oldest country song to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify. Before “Jolene,” that distinction belonged to Rascal Flatts’ 2006 hit “Life Is a Highway.”
“Jolene” Reaches a New Generation
The song’s streaming numbers saw a major increase following Dolly Parton’s death on August 25.
According to the report, Parton’s music experienced a huge surge across streaming platforms. “Jolene” alone recorded 4.728 million Spotify streams worldwide on August 26.
The song also reached the top of Spotify’s Global Top 50 shortly after Parton’s death, alongside several of her other classics.
Dolly Parton Joins Spotify’s Billion-Stream Club
With “Jolene” crossing the 1 billion mark, Parton has officially entered Spotify’s elite group of artists with a country song at that level.
The milestone is especially significant because “Jolene” is the first song from Parton’s legendary catalog to reach 1 billion Spotify streams.
The song joins an impressive list that includes hits from Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, Zach Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Taylor Swift and other major artists.
Among the songs already in the billion-stream club are “Last Night,” “Tennessee Whiskey,” “Beautiful Crazy,” “When It Rains It Pours,” “Something in the Orange,” “Love Story,” “Whiskey Glasses” and “Fast Car.”
A 1973 Classic Still Breaking Records
More than 50 years after its release, “Jolene” continues to prove that great country music can transcend generations.
Written entirely by Dolly Parton, the song became one of the defining recordings of her career. Now, its latest streaming milestone adds another remarkable achievement to Parton’s legacy.
“Jolene” is not just a country classic anymore. It is officially one of the most-streamed country songs in Spotify history.
