Trump Considering A “DOGE Dividend” To Give Americans Money Saved by DOGE

President Trump Mentions Idea Of A “DOGE Dividend” To Give Money Back To American Taxpayers

President Donald Trump is considering the idea of a “DOGE dividend.”

A dividend is defined as “an individual share of something distributed,” “a return or award,” or “a sum or fund to be divided and distributed.” As Trump detailed during a speech at an investment conference in Miami on Wednesday (February 19), the “DOGE dividend” would serve as a payment to the American people.

The idea of a “DOGE dividend” came up in a post on X (formerly Twitter). When Azoria CEO James Fishback suggested the idea of such a dividend, he got a response from Elon Musk, who is spearheading DOGE.

Musk responded, “Will check with the President,” in a reply he wrote on Tuesday (February 18).

As the Associated Press reports, Trump said he is considering giving American taxpayers 20% of the money saved by DOGE. If this plan falls into place, another 20% of the funds saved by DOGE will go toward the national debt.

Trump believes that the potential to receive dividend payments would encourage citizens to report wasteful spending to DOGE. “They participate in the process of saving us money,” he said.

After the speech, as he prepared to return to Washington, D.C. on Air Force One, a reporter asked Trump for more thoughts on the idea of a “DOGE dividend.” His response was, “I love it.”

What Is DOGE?

DOGE stands for the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk serves as the informal leader of DOGE. DOGE is a temporary contracted organization, not a Cabinet-level department.

The organization devotes itself to discovering cases of financial fraud at the federal level. It also aims to cut federal spending wherever possible.

From everything the public has seen, Musk and Trump appear to work together closely and frequently. Just last week, Musk joined Trump in the Oval Office to announce DOGE is investigating federal employees who are “mysteriously” wealthy.

Even more recently, Trump playfully poked fun at Musk and the DOGE team in an interview with Sean Hannity. With Musk by his side, Trump joked about his fashion sense.

“He’s got some very brilliant young people working for him that dress much worse than him. Actually, they dress in just T-shirts.”
