REPORT: Illegal Immigration Hits Historic Low Under President Trump

Trump Boasts Record-Low Illegal Immigration At Southern Border

NOTE: This article uses the term “Illegal Immigrant” throughout. It is not meant to be derogatory to any nation, race, or people but rather a term used to identify anyone who enters America Illegally.

Donald Trump shared a post on his social media channels, including Truth Social and Instagram, claiming that he has achieved the lowest rate of illegal immigration ever at the southern border with Mexico.

The President shared this infographic:

The text presents a visual depiction of the decline in illegal immigration, noting that in February 2025, during Donald Trump’s presidency, there were only 8,347 illegal immigrants crossing the border.

The graphic contrasts this with President Biden’s numbers for February 2024, which, according to this graphic, indicate that 140,641 illegal immigrants crossed the southern border.

Donald Trump shared a Truth Social post about this on March 1st, stating:

“The month of February, my first full month in Office, had the LOWEST number of Illegal Immigrants trying to enter our Country in History – BY FAR! There were only 8,326 apprehensions of Illegals by Border Patrol at the U.S. – Mexico Border, all of whom were quickly ejected from our Nation or, when necessary, prosecuted for crimes against the United States of America. This means that very few people came – The Invasion of our Country is OVER.”

Donald Trump continued on to say,

In comparison, under Joe Biden, there were 300,000 Illegals crossing in one month, and virtually ALL of them were released into our Country. Thanks to the Trump Administration Policies, the Border is CLOSED to all Illegal Immigrants. Anyone who tries to illegally enter the U.S.A. will face significant criminal penalties and immediate deportation.”

What Do These Numbers Mean?

In simple terms, these numbers indicate that fewer people are trying to enter the country illegally. Trump takes credit for this drastic change.

During his election, the president ran on a few pivotal campaign promises, one of them being that he would secure the southern border.

He demonstrated his seriousness by entering the office and immediately starting the process of deporting individuals who were in the country illegally, arranging for their return by plane to their home countries. He even threatened tariffs if the countries of origin did not agree to accept these migrants back.

This set a global precedent that America would deport those who enter the country illegally.

What Policies Did Trump Implement To Achieve These Record Low Numbers?

This list is not comprehensive, but according to The White House, Donald Trump signed multiple executive orders to stop the flow of illegal immigrants to the southern border.

One of the major changes implemented was Donald Trump ending “catch-and-release,” which allowed immigrants to be released into American society while they awaited their immigration court dates instead of being detained.

The president also terminated all taxpayer-funded public benefits for illegal immigrants.

He restarted building the border wall and reestablished the “Remain in Mexico” policy.

The President also “signed the Laken Riley Act into law, which requires illegal immigrants arrested or charged with theft or violence to be detained — honoring the legacy of Laken Riley, a Georgia college student brutally murdered by an illegal alien released into the country.”
