North Idaho Mourns The Loss of Two Firefighters Killed In The Line Of Duty
On Sunday, June 29, a startling act of violence claimed the lives of two firefighters in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
KHQ News reports that fire personnel responded to a brush fire near Canfield Mountain around 1:20 PM local time. At 2 PM, emergency dispatch received a call from a firefighter on site that they were receiving gunfire and that multiple individuals had been hit.
Two heroic firefighters, later identified as 42-year-old Frank Harwood and 52-year-old John Morrison, died in the shooting. A third, 47-year-old David Tysdal, sustained serious injuries but is expected to recover.
It is believed that the fire was set intentionally to lure the firefighters in. The shooter was 20-year-old Wess Roley, whose body was recovered from the scene after cell phone data was used to track his location. A motive for the attack has not yet been released.
Bob Norris, the Sheriff of Kootenai County, described the incident as “a total ambush.”
