The Concert Was Assembled By Robert Earl Keen, Who Is From The Devastated Texas Hill Country

“As most of you know, the Texas Hill Country — and namely, my hometown of Kerrville — has been crippled by unprecedented flooding on the 4th of July,” said country singer-songwriter Robert Earl Keen in a video statement on July 5.

As of Wednesday, July 16, the death toll from that storm is 134, with many more still missing.

The tragedy at Camp Mystic, in particular, attracted national attention.

Responding to this disaster, Keen said he would be putting together a benefit concert to support the community, and he’s delivered on that promise.

Presented by Texas-staple Buc-ee’s, the event has been dubbed REK & Friends: Applause For The Cause, a benefit concert supporting the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.

Featuring the likes of Robert Earl Keen, Tyler Childers, and Miranda Lambert, this benefit concert will see a variety of performers and unique collaborations grace the stage of the Whitewater Amphitheater, in Canyon Lake, Texas.

“This is a star-studded lineup with music starting in the mid-afternoon and lasting far into the night,” said Keen, as quoted in a press release. “We must help everyone as much as we can, for as long as we can.”

Chiming in, Beaver Aplin, founder of Buc-ee’s, said, “We are pleased to have the opportunity to support the relief efforts of so many for our beloved Hill Country. The tragedies are beyond belief.”

Buc-ee’s made a $1 million donation to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.

“Buc-ee’s teaming with Robert Earl Keen and friends for this benefit concert just seemed like the right thing to do,” Aplin added. “When we learned 100 percent of our commitment goes to the Community Foundation of the Hill Country, we were all in.”

Doors will open for Applause for the Cause at 3 p.m., with Lloyd Maines and his Austin City Limits Band, with special guest vocalists, taking the stage first.
