Lainey Wilson Says Her Friend Reba Is A “Good” Woman

Lainey Wilson can’t say enough wonderful things about her good friend and mentor, Reba McEntire.

Lainey says that long before she stepped onto the country music scene, she has been inspired by Reba and now that she is lucky enough to know her, leans on her for support.

“I can text Reba and say, ‘what do you do when this happens? And what do you do when you’re feeling this way’ and whatever. And then she just willingly sends me pages of wisdom that shows you why she is where she is. Because you can tell that there has been people before her who have poured into her and she’s willing to do the same now. She’s a good woman,” Wilson shared.

She also explains how she is especially drawn to the genuine person Reba has remained over the years, no matter how famous and successful she has become.

“Just even watching old interviews of Reba, it’s the same exact person as when me and her went and got supper together in Los Angeles a few months back, what you see is what you get and no amount of awards and accolades and money and stardom and all of these things will ever take her away from the things that make her, her,” Lainey said. “And that’s inspiring to me.”

Lainey says that perhaps one of the things she loves the most about Reba, however, is how open-minded she is to just about anything.

“It is really crazy to, even though we’re in a completely different time, that a lot of her struggles then are the same struggles that I have now. And a lot of the things that you’re just kind of scared to ask people, it didn’t seem like a silly question to her,” Wilson shared. “She is a beautiful person inside and out. So getting to know her has been, it’s been more than I could have ever imagined.”

Lainey & Reba Team Up With Miranda Lambert For Powerful New Song, “Trailblazer”

Earlier this year, Lainey and Reba teamed up, together with Miranda Lambert, and released the hit, “Trailblazer,” a track that celebrates the influential female artists of country music’s past and present.

Lainey and Miranda co-wrote the song with Brandy Clark. They admitted cried as they wrote it, and Reba cried when she heard it for the first time.

“I remember listening to it in the dressing room. I couldn’t find a flaw in it, not a word,” Reba told Billboard. “It was that great. I was very emotional when I heard it.”

The track offers praises to iconic women in country music such as Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, and Loretta Lynn. It also includes odes to the women’s personal histories and home states.

“I remember thinking that this could be a song that a grandmother and a daughter and a grandchild could listen to, Wilson said. And not just about the history of country music… If we’re not thinking about the people that we’re singing to then they’re not going to be able to relate.”
