Kelly Clarkson returned to hosting her self-titled talk show after an unexplained absence left fans concerned.
Kelly Clarkson made her return to The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday (March 18) after stepping away on March 6 for undisclosed reasons. During her absence, the show continued scheduled filming, but guests reportedly weren’t told that Kelly was gone until they arrived for their segment due to privacy reasons.
Some of the show’s guests took over hosting duties at the last minute, giving no explanation to the audience about why Clarkson wasn’t there. Actor Simu Liu was the first to move from guest to host, and he shared that he didn’t know he was hosting until “about five minutes ago.” He added simply, “Kelly isn’t able to make it today. We’re sending her our very best.”
Other stars who have stepped into the role include Brooke Shields, Willie Geist, Josh Groban, and Wanda Sykes.
ET reported Wednesday (March 12) that Clarkson’s absence was due to a “sudden family emergency.” Neither Kelly Clarkson nor her team have confirmed the news.
Kelly returned to her show for its Tuesday (May 18) episode after missing 10 tapings. She did not address her absence, instead stepping right back into her hosting role. She kicked off Tuesday’s show with a Kellyoke performance of “Flames” by Will Swinton. The performance was followed by interviews with actor Adam Scott, musician and YouTuber Marc Rebillet, The New York Bombers adaptive baseball team, and GalaxSea Explorers.
Fans celebrated Kelly Clarkson’s return.
The show’s social media pages shared images from Kelly’s return, and fans reacted, letting the singer know she was missed.
“I’m so glad you’re back. Why does it feel like it’s been a year rather than just over a week??” one viewer wrote.
Others added, “All is right again 🙌 *breathes a sigh of relief*” and “We missed you, Kelly!”
The Kelly Clarkson Show premiered in 2019 and earned rave reviews from viewers. The hour-long talk show features celebrity guest interviews, segments about everyday people, and her popular Kellyoke segment where the host covers hits from different musical genres.
A press release about the show describes it as “a fun, energetic show that breaks with tradition. In each episode audiences will experience an hour full of remarkable stories, celebrity guests, spontaneous surprises, humor, heart and, of course, good music.”
Over the course of its six seasons, The Kelly Clarkson Show has earned twenty-two Daytime Emmy Awards. Clarkson herself was named Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and Outstanding Talk Show Host in 2023.
