Jay Leno Steps Out in Los Angeles with Bruised Face, Broken Wrist After Rolling 60 Ft. Down a Hill
Jay Leno is still on the mend after falling 60-ft. down a hill.
On Thursday, Nov. 21, the former The Tonight Show host stepped out for lunch in Los Angeles and was photographed with visible injuries to his face. The 74-year-old was staying at a hotel outside of Pittsburgh before an evening show on Saturday when the accident happened.
The hotel was located at the top of a hill and he fell while trying to walk to a nearby restaurant. “To get to it, I didn’t have a car, so you had to walk about a mile and a half around. I said, ‘Well, the hill doesn’t look that steep. It’s about 60-70 feet. Let me see if I can go down the hill,’” he recalled.
“I fell down. Boom, boom, boom. I rolled down the hill, hit my head on a rock, knocked me in the eye,” he told TMZ.
Leno later told Inside Edition that he broke his wrist, lost one of the nails on his finger and the entire left side of his body is bruised. He was also wearing an eye patch and showed that his eye was swollen shut with his face black and blue from the fall.
The comedian said he still completed his show at Yaamava’ Casino in Southern California a few hours later, and waited until he was back in Los Angeles to seek medical attention.
“The great thing about this age [is] you don’t learn by your mistakes, you just keep doing the same stupid thing,” he quipped, referring to his 2022 burn accident.
In November 2022, Leno was working on a steam engine underneath a car in his garage when a gasoline fire broke out. He was admitted to the Grossman Burn Center after suffering second- and third-degree burns on his face, chest and hands in the blaze.
He underwent a series of surgical excision and grafting procedures for his burns and was discharged from the renowned facility after a 10-day stint.
