FBI finds chilling note inside home of alleged Charlie Kirk assassin

On September 15, the FBI revealed a “shocking” note was found inside the home of the accused sniper and his transgender partner – evidence investigators say could explain why the killer wanted to “take out” Charlie Kirk.
After Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a Sept. 10 event at Utah Valley University (UVU), authorities announced that an arrest had been made 33 hours later.
“We got him,” said Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, confirming that a suspect had been found.
Tyler Robinson, 22, was taken into custody on Sept. 11 for assassinating the conservative activist, who was gunned down while speaking at a Turning Point USA event on the UVU campus.
Dad turned him in
Footage of the incident, along with the suspect escaping the scene, was blasted on TV and across the internet. The clip showed the man, dressed in a black T-shirt with an eagle and American flag, leaping from the roof of a UVU building moments after the shooting, fleeing into a wooded area with his face hidden behind dark sunglasses and a baseball cap.
When the images surfaced, one man immediately recognized him – his father.
“Tyler, is this you? This looks like you,” the father later asked his son, according to officials.
The young man then confessed to his dad, per CNN.
Though he urged his son to surrender, Robinson refused. “I would rather kill myself than turn myself in,” the accused killer responded.
Unable to persuade him, the suspect’s father then reached out to a local youth pastor – also a court security officer – who contacted the U.S. Marshals. Robinson was taken into custody without incident on the evening of Sept. 11.
DNA match
Officials say that Robinson, who has no formal political affiliation and is listed as an inactive voter, had a clear line of sight to the event’s stage, where Kirk was speaking, allowing him to kill the right-wing activist with one bullet in the neck.
According to FBI Director Kash Patel, Robinson’s DNA has been matched to a screwdriver recovered from the rooftop, along with a towel wrapped around the rifle believed to have been used to fatally shoot Kirk.
“I can report today that the DNA hits from the towel that was wrapped around the firearm and the DNA on the screwdriver are positively processed for the suspect in custody,” Patel said in a Sept. 15 interview with Fox & Friends, confirming the DNA analysis directly links Robinson to both items found at the scene.
Chilling note
In his interview, Patel revealed told Fox that investigators had also obtained forensic evidence of a handwritten note allegedly authored by the accused before the fatal shooting – but the note has since been destroyed.
“I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it,” Patel said, summarizing the note.
“That note was written before the shooting,” the FBI director said, confirming the note “was kept in the home of the suspect and his alleged transgender partner.”
In addition to the message, Patel explained that agents had reviewed a text message exchange between Robinson and another individual, “in which he claimed that he had an opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and he was going to do it because of his hatred of what Charlie stood for.”
Trying to determine motive
Robinson has not publicly commented on the charges, and investigators have yet to identify a definitive motive. However, Patel revealed that the FBI has interviewed Robinson’s live-in partner, who Gov. Cox described as transitioning from male to female.
While the relationship has been acknowledged by officials, officials cautioned against speculation regarding motive, urging the public not to draw premature conclusions.
Patel stated that further details, including potential motives, will be released in the formal charging documents set to be released on Sept. 16.
