
Country Artist Conner Smith Charged With Misdemeanor After Fatal Pedestrian Accident

77-Year-Old Dorothy Dobbins Was Killed In An Accident On June 8th While Crossing The Street In Nashville
Country artist Conner Smith has been charged for his involvement in the accident that resulted in the death of 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department released a statement about the accident. According to the police, 24-year-old Smith was driving a Chevrolet Silverado north on 3rd Avenue North in Nashville when he struck Dobbins on June 8th.
The police said Dobbins appeared to be “inside a marked crosswalk when she was struck around 7:30 p.m.” They added:
“The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment.“
Dobbins was taken to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died as a result of the injuries she sustained.
Smith canceled his upcoming appearances after the accident and remained off social media.
Conner Smith Charged For Involvement In Fatal Accident – Lawyer Releases Statement
On Thursday (July 10th), news broke that Conner Smith received a charge for his involvement in the accident. Smith’s attorney, Worrick G Robinson IV, confirmed the news in a statement shared with Billboard and other outlets.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department issued a misdemeanor state citation to Smith. A statement on the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County website listed Smith’s charge as “Failure to Yield the Right of Way Resulting in Death,” a Class A misdemeanor. Smith will appear for booking on the citation on August 7th.
In Robinson’s statement about his client’s charge, he said:
“A misdemeanor state citation was issued tonight by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department to Conner Smith. Conner is incredibly grateful to the MNPD for their time and efforts to carefully investigate this tragic accident and has continued to cooperate at all times. His thoughts remain with Ms. Dobbins’ family, and he remains committed to honoring her memory with compassion by supporting efforts to improve pedestrian safety and help prevent future tragedies.”
Billboard‘s “sources” informed the outlet that multiple signs have been installed at the accident scene to make the crosswalk more visible. Billboard claims these sources also told them a tree obstructing the crosswalk has since been removed.
Conner Smith Breaks His Silence
On July 11th, Smith broke his silence in a statement released on social media. In it, he expressed heartbreak over Dobbins’ death and asked his followers to keep her family in their prayers.
“Not a day has gone by that I haven’t grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms. Dobbins and her family. My heart is broken in a way I’ve never experienced, and I still struggle to fully process the weight of it all. I ask that you continue to lift the Dobbins family up in prayer by name, asking for God’s peace to surround them each day.”
Smith shared that he’s been leaning on his faith these past few weeks, writing, “Through tragedy, I have learned that God is more faithful than I could have ever known before.”
