New Song Comes Just A Few Months After Brandon Lake Released His Hit Album ‘King Of Hearts’

“When a cowboy prays, it starts raining in Oklahoma, long lost sons come home to momma, and those stubborn horses break. When a cowboy prays, with a whistle and a rumble, it’s as strong as it is humble. This whole world just ain’t the same when a cowboy prays.”

2025 has been a big year for Christian artist Brandon Lake. This year, so far, he’s made his debut at the Opry, led worship at CMA Fest, released an album, gone on tour, and been nominated for his first CMA Award.

Amid all of that, and more, he’s had time to write and record a new song, too.

“When A Cowboy Prays” finds Brandon leaning into the timeless American imagery of the West, while singing of the eternal truth of God’s love for His children.

“When A Cowboy Prays” Released With Music Video

During a stop in July in Dallas, Texas, on the Summer Worship Nights 2025 tour with his friend, Christian artist Phil Wickham, Brandon unveiled a new song, “When A Cowboy Prays.”

Noting he had written it the week before, this came as a surprise, especially considering his album King Of Hearts was released in June, with the “Full Deck Deluxe” edition coming out the following week.

At that Dallas show, Brandon dedicated the song to “all my cowboys and all my bubbas out there who God hears,” adding, “You might not have a cowboy grandpa, or somethin’, but there’s just certain people out there when you hear ‘em pray, it moves mountains, you know? And it’s humble, but it’s honest.”

A few weeks later, Brandon hinted at having recorded a demo of the song, and perhaps even a music video…

On September 26, the song was finally released.

Stream “When A Cowboy Prays,” here, and listen to an acoustic version of the song, a demo version, and an instrumental version as well.

The official music video was also released on September 26 as well, and it depicts the daily life and struggle of working on a ranch and breaking horses. It also shows the familial struggles that can happen between generations.

Here, a man is struggling to be engaged as a father, and even as a husband. He’s concerned with time and progress, and has started taking out his frustrations on his sons.

After neglecting his Bible for some time, the father opens it one day, finding the polaroid photo of his sons that he had been using as a bookmark. There, he reads from Ephesians 5, which begins by stating, “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.”

We then see his fingers run over the words of Ephesians 5:25, which states, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.”

From there, he approaches his interactions with his family with greater love and patience, helping to mend the relationships with those he loves. The music video ends with his family happily reunited in prayer at the dinner table.

Beautifully shot in the CinemaScope 2.35:1 aspect ratio, this is a music video that tells a personal story in a grand way. While there’s no dialogue, the lyrics to “When A Cowboy Prays” fills in the gaps.
