Shocking reason passenger walked onto airport runway to block departing flight

A unhinged passenger who missed his flight scampered onto the airport tarmac in a desperate attempt to stop the plane from departing.

Footage of the bizarre incident showed the unidentified 29-year-old man running toward a LATAM Airlines jet at El Tepual International Airport in Puerto Montt, Chile on Monday.

The man could be seen waving at the plane in an apparent attempt to capture the pilots’ attention in hopes of being allowed on the one-hour flight to the city of Concepción.

An airport worker could be seen rushing toward the man as he continued to gesture toward the jetliner.

Security staff then arrived and the man was eventually escorted away.

He was arrested and was scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday.

It wasn’t the passenger’s first run-in with the law.

He has been arrested in the past for threats and thefts, according to online news outlet BioBioChile.

Puerto Montt Mayor Rodrigo Wainraihgt questioned the airport’s security measures in an interview with DUNA radio.

‘It certainly also leads us to see what policies are being taken at the airport,’ Wainraihgt said.

The security breach comes after a Haitian man arrested for destroying the check-in counter area at Santiago International Airport in the Chilean capital.

The passenger reportedly lost his temper after an airline staffer reportedly declined to provide him assistance to return to the Caribbean nation.

Six month earlier, he went on a similar rampage at the airport after saying he paid for a ticket but was not allowed to check in because he did not have a visa.
